With over 19 years of Online Marketing experience I'm now deemed an "Internet Veteran"... I've been involved directly in the Digital Marketing industry longer than Google, unfortunately not quite as rich....
Throughout, I've worked either worked for, built, or consulted to businesses with the common objective of enhancing profitability through high impact digital campaigns. Like my clients, I share a tremendous passion to develop strategies which win MORE business...MORE revenue... and BETTER results month after month on the company P&L accounts.
ME AND THE INTERNET
My journey through the industry started in 1995 developing SEO campaigns back in the days of Alta Vista (who remembers the fact you had a sub-domained site (altavista.digital.com) to access on of the original search engines) whilst on a summer placement with the UK's first Digital Marketing Agency (KMP). My university dissertation quickly followed entitled simply "Marketing on the Internet" - I still have a bound colour copy lying around if you're interested in seeing the Internet landscape back then!
In 1996 I headed to London to work for one of the UK's first retail startup companies back in the days prior to the 'boom'.... these were the days when you heard the word 'Internet' in a pub and automatically assumed you must know the speaker...
4 years working with the retail startup, building my SEO understanding and commercial partnerships with some of the UK's dot com pioneers and speaking at events in the early days of Affiliate Marketing... the whole Digital Marketing portfolio was beging to come together.
Then....2000, introducing eSpotting and GoTo....and Paid Search Advertising. Wow. I never looked back, I was hooked. My next stop on the industry journey was with Priceline.com as their European Marketing Director administering one of the largest digital marketing budgets in the UK.... big budget marketing with a granular ROI focus.
2002 saw me launch my own, and literally, back-bedroom retail business in the Musical Instrument Retail business. I was finally practicing what I'd preached with my own budget... my own money.
The company rapidly expanded taking on staff, retail premises, warehouses and all the new adventures of running my own retail business.... all in the most cost-effective manner available - this was funded by me and my company profits without VC involvement.
The rollercoaster ride came to an end in 2006 when I sold the business to a near competitor and devoted my time, full time, to my consultancy business. From back bedroom to winning Fender Dealer of the Year for Europe in 4 years. My ambitions had well and truly been exceeded.
During the past 8 years I've been privileged to work alongside some of the world's leading marketing figures, brands and companies... mixing my portfolio of clients with startups and SMEs with big ideas.
